In Bulgarian "Maritsa" is the name for the Evros river, a name which is also used by Greek Thracians today. Culture knows of no geographic boundaries and the Balkan people are especially aware of that, as they have been mutually influenced both on the linguistic and on the musical level. Evritiki Zygia wrote this song as an homage to this shared cultural heritage. It is written in 6/8, a time signature very popular in the Balkans.
If "Dhulka Hooyo" doesn't move your ass, you lack an ass, all its fuzzy keys-triumphant vocal harmonies an all. I often enjoy world music distantly, but this one has the feels--recommend, recommend. VAST DEFERENS
This has become one of the most important albums of my life. It’s essence is indescribable. Every sound from the start of the record through the end is placed delicately and with care. The album cover is by Julie Mehretu. It’s absolutely an incredible release for which I shall be eternally grateful. Aniket
